- Work Location: Norfin Offshore Shipyard, Ikot Ukpong, Oruk Anam, Akwa Ibom State
- Staff Transport: Daily From Uyo and From Port Harcourt
Marine design and engineering involves basic and applied research, design, development, design evaluation, design classification and calculations during all stages of the life of a marine vessels. Preliminary design of the vessel, its detailed design, construction, trials, operation and maintenance, launching and dry-docking are the main activities involved. Marine design and engineering also involves formulation of safety regulations and damage-control rules and the approval and certification of ship designs to meet statutory and non-statutory requirements.
POSITION | LEAD ENGINEER, MACHINERY AND PIPING |
REPORTING TO | Engineering Manager |
TASK AND RESPONSIBLITIES | Responsible for developing mechanical and piping engineering designs and solutions for ships to be build or repair, for the production processes and installations and also for equipment installations. |
To lead and coordinate a team of engineers in the preparation and realization of project deliverables, in accordance with customer requirements, technical and operational guidelines. | |
Functionally lead, coach and develop employees of the team and appraise or give input to appraisal when applicable. | |
Give technical advice in tenders and potential issues, barriers or gaps related to production of the owned discipline and provide input on production approach, sequence and budget implications. | |
Support internal and external stakeholders during implementation, production and aftersales on technical aspects and questions | |
Identify and evaluate bottlenecks in processes, installations and equipment, make suggestions for improvement and ensure and monitor implementation after approval. | |
Analyze and assess customer requirements related to products and processes (materials, process, quality, product specifications) and perform initial opportunity and risk analyses. | |
Examine the processed drawings on consistency with specifications, missing information, readability and user friendliness. Where needed adjust or elaborate the documents and system information and provide input for detail plan for machinery & piping. If applicable calculate weight and relevant technical details, and determine specifications for work to be outsourced. | |
REQUIREMENT - EXPERIENCE | At least two years relevant work experience in a similar position. |
Great leadership skills, excellent analytical and problem solving skills. | |
Excellent communication skills in English | |
Able to establish quality standards by understanding Class requirements, Customer requirements and internal Shipyard workmanship standards. | |
Able to ensure ISO 9000 quality management system is maintained throughout company including internal audit program | |
REQUIREMENT – EDUCATION AND KEY CERTIFICATES | Master’s Degree or Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture or any other relevant disciplines |
